Clouston’s syndrome

This is a rare disease and is characterized by thick palms and soles, hyperpigmentation on knuckles, elbows, armpits and pubic area, thin or absent eyebrows, sparse eyelashes, darkened skin and white patches on skin. This disease can also lead to cataract, photophobia, dull mental growth and short stature. This is a congenital problem of mutation of genes and is characterized by anomaly in body structure like sweating may be absent, brittle nails, malformed dental structures, diminished salivation and lacrimation. This disease has been observed among the whites and its frequency is like 1 in a lakh.
